Week of March 25th Memorization text

The memorization text for these next few weeks is the Angelus (a prayer commemorating the Annunciation of our Lord (March 25th normally)). This is a prayer that has been forgotten in the Church and we need to bring it back through the future of the Church, the youth. My home room prays it every day before we go to lunch. The test will be on Monday April the 8th.

V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived by the power of Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done unto me according to your Word.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V. And the Word was made flesh.
R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Glory be...

Student response to our discussion

A few weeks ago, in the sixth grade class, we had a discussion on the topic of abortion. The kids discussed organizations that try to save different aspects of the earth and realized the desire to save the trees and pandas (although a good thing) pales in comparison to the desire we should have for saving our fellow human race (especially the most vulnerable). Two of the sixth graders were so moved that they went home that evening and wrote a letter to the president of the U.S.A. This is one of them:

Dear Mr. President,
My name is Jane Phillips and I live in Wichita Kansas. I am a sixth grader at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. Every day we have Religion class. Today we talked about abortion. I would like to know why abortion is legal.  Every day I think about the little babies that are aborted. I think about what they could be. But they never get the chance to be “the next big thing” I have two brothers that I love very much. Every year we have a pro-life week. In pro-life week we will write a poem about pro-life. I go to school with all my friends and I couldn’t imagine life without them. If they weren’t with me I don’t know who I would be. Say you were the baby that was aborted. How would you become the president? Just think all your favorite memories, gone.  Think of your family who would they be without you? Today there are more than 50 million babies not getting a chance.  One of those babies could have been the president too. One of those babies could have found the cure to every disease. In religion class I had a huge debate about abortions. On the endangered animals list there are pandas, polar bears, and many more. What I don’t understand is we will try to save the endangered animals, don’t take me wrong I am all for saving the animals, but we don’t even want to save our own human race.  Every baby that is killed there is less of a chance for everything. All babies deserve a chance in life. If the parents don’t want the baby they can be put up for adoption. My goal is to make abortion illegal. I know that is a big job for an 11 year old. But I have a feeling I can accomplish it. The baby never had a chance to see the world and be their own person. It never got to see its mother and father. It never got to see how many fun things are. They don’t get that one chance to change the world like I’m trying. I may only be 11 but I can do this for babies EVERYEHERE.
