The Lord’s Diner serves dinner 365 days a year to those in need. Blessed Sacrament parish stewards volunteer to serve at the Broadway building on the first Sunday of the month. Those who sign on can help preparing food (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) or in the evening serving food and cleaning up (5-8 p.m.). A Food Safety class is required for new volunteers but is easy to obtain through a free online course. The Diocese requires all new volunteers take a VIRTUS class. Information on both is offered below.

Volunteer Parking & Entrance Information
The Lord’s Diner is at 520 North Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and Central. The parking lot and entrance for volunteers is east of the building and can be accessed through the alley off Central or the entrance off Broadway. Overflow parking is in the lot south of the building. Volunteers should walk into the building through the door marked Volunteer entrance on the east side.
The Volunteer entrance will be unlocked during the prep shift (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) and the serving shift (4:45-8 p.m.). There is a ramp at this door and a doorbell in the event you arrive and the door is locked. The parking lot is lit and officers will provide security for those leaving after the evening shift.
Food Safety Class and Virtus Training
The City of Wichita Environmental Health Department no longer requires food handler cards or food handler classes. This means the Lord’s Diner will no longer require renewals. All those who already have a food handler card, even if it is expired, will not have to renew their card at any time. The Lord’s Diner will continue to require new volunteers to take a food safety class—one that is free, online, and specific to what is done at the Diner, so much quicker. A card will be available to print at the end of the online session and will never expire. New volunteers simply bring the card with them for documentation.

The Lord’s Diner will still require new volunteers to have Virtus training. The reason behind this is to create a safe space for everyone who walks through its doors—volunteers, guests, staff, children, senior citizens, etc.
